Senior Regionals 2016/17

Tournament Report

The 2017 Senior Regional Tournament saw both our A & B teams play South East, North and England U19s. Although we didn’t have much chance to practice together, both teams played really well and it was incredible to see the improvement from the first game to the last.

A Team

The A team, having been beaten by winners of the A tournament, SE, on the Saturday really put up a good fight on the Sunday. They came from 5 goals down in the first half against North to lose by only 1 goal with the final score at 7-8, and were narrowly beaten by England U19 with the final score at 7-8 again in the last game of the tournament. Top scorers were: Alana with 7, Ruby with 5, Toks, Annie H, Katie B & Annie B with 2 and Kirsten, Katie A & Ash with 1.

B Team

The B team played hard against SE and North, who went on to win the B tournament, however, both teams proved stubborn in defence which reduced our scoring chances. Against the England U19 team, although our B team lost, they really improved their defending in the second half and reduced England’s chances of scoring by half. Top scorers from the B team were: Temi with 4 and Ellie B, Tora & Holly with 1 each.

December 4th Trials

This season’s Senior Regionals began with trials on December 4th at St Helen & St Katherine School in Abingdon. At these trials 35 girls showed some great lacrosse in a series of skill stations in the morning and tactical stations in the afternoon, both followed by a game to put these into practice. It was great to see such a high level of lacrosse played by all the girls who attended, even those who had only played for one month prior to trialling!

Leading the trials and team this year is Head Coach Kate Nelson-Lee and her Assistant Coaches Dan Osmond and Jennifer Evans. Following the December trials, Kate, Dan and Jen had the difficult task of starting to select those who will play for the Regional team at the tournament in March. However, there is still all to play for as trials will continue at the training session on January 8th with an expected turn out of nearly 50 players!

All players should aim to make the primary trial date in December, but we know that sometimes you may have unavoidable commitments, therefore if you can't make this date you will be allowed to trial in January as long as you have notified us on your Form or by email before the trial date. Likewise please notify us on your form if you cannot make the January date and are attending the December one.

Please note, that if you have registered to attend the December date, but fail to notify us before the 4th December that you can no longer make it, you will not be allowed to attend the January date to trial.

Please note. We never ever select anyone for the south west team if they have not attended either the December or January date. No exceptions will be made and this has always been our policy.

The cost of trialling is £22 for non-students and £20 for students. There may be further fees for those that are selected; these are used only to cover the costs of running the regional teams.
